Almost 90% of all earthquakes occur within the boundaries of the "ring of fire" zone around the Pacific Ocean. The "ring of fire" is a direct result of plate tectonics. All three boundaries are present in the "ring of fire" zone. The volcanoes, islands, and mountain ranges are created at the convergent boundaries. The East Pacific Rise, located within the "ring of fire," is an example of divergent sea-floor spreading. Most of the Earth’s faults can be found along transform boundaries in the "ring of fire." The most active of these faults is the San Andreas fault (National Geographic, n.d.).
